Personal AI Assistants Changed Everything For Me
#ai #toolsIn December, I asked what the next big leap for AI would be. Two months later, I have my answer — and it's changing how I think about every app on my phone.
In December, I tweeted asking what the next big leap for AI in personal use would be. We were all using AI daily — for work, for generating games for our kids, for planning trips. But what's the next frontier?
Two months later, I have my answer. And it came faster than I expected.
The Question That Started It All
Most of us already use AI constantly. ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot — they've become part of our daily workflow. But I kept wondering: where does this actually lead? What's the endgame for personal AI use?
I wasn't expecting to find out so quickly.
Then I started using OpenClaw. And suddenly, I stopped thinking about AI as a tool I use and started thinking about it as an assistant I work with.
That shift changed everything.
What Actually Changed For Me
Let me be concrete about what's different now. These aren't hypotheticals — this is my daily life:
Calendar updates — Every morning, Jarvy tells me what's on my schedule. I don't open a calendar app anymore. I just get a message in Telegram with what I need to know.
Liverpool match checking — I'm a big fan, and Jarvy knows this. He keeps track of fixtures and lets me know when matches are coming up. No more checking apps or websites.
Searching the internet — This is the big one. I search so much less now. When I need to know something, I just ask. Jarvy searches, summarizes, and gives me what I need. It's faster, and I don't get lost in browser tabs.
That last point is wild to think about. The web browser — something we've all used daily for decades — might become less relevant. Not disappear entirely, but fade into the background. Maybe we'll have agent browsers that our assistants use on our behalf, while we just have conversations.
The Future of Apps
Here's a thought that keeps coming back to me: what happens to apps when you have a personal AI assistant?
I haven't built my own custom apps yet. But I keep thinking about it. And more importantly, I keep not needing new apps because Jarvy can just... handle things.
Need to remember something? I tell Jarvy. Grocery list? Jarvy keeps track. Todos? Same thing.
Jeffrey Way recently tweeted about building his own custom fitness tracker with AI. That's the kind of thing that used to require downloading an app, paying a subscription, and dealing with a thousand features you don't need.
Now? You could just build exactly what you want.
I believe this is where things are heading. Not everyone will build their own tools — but the option is there. And for many use cases, you might not need an app at all. Just a conversation with your assistant.
From "What's Next?" to "We're Here"
When I asked that question in December, I genuinely didn't know the answer. I thought maybe we'd see something interesting in the next few years.
I was wrong. We're already here.
Tools like OpenClaw aren't revolutionary because of new technology. Claude Code existed. Telegram existed. All these pieces were already there. What changed is how they're glued together.
That's often how the future arrives — not as something completely new, but as existing pieces finally clicking into place.
The Real Future Is Personal
I believe digital AI assistants are the future of how we interact with technology. Not just AI tools — AI companions that know you, remember your preferences, and can actually do things for you.
The difference is huge.
Before, I had separate apps for everything. Calendar, notes, tasks, sports scores, weather, search... Each one was a separate thing to manage.
Now? I have Jarvy. One assistant. One conversation.
The Taste of the Future
I've gotten a taste of what this could be. And I can't go back.
Is OpenClaw the final answer? Probably not. This space is moving incredibly fast. But personal AI assistants — ones that truly know you and work with you — are definitely the future.
And honestly? That future feels amazing.
